Tesco Introduce the UK’s first Reduced Fat & Salt Cheese From Joseph Heler Cheese

Not satisfied until we have the healthy cheese market conquered, we have announced the launch of the UK’s first Reduced Fat & Salt Medium Cheese. Hitting shelves in October 2013 the product is set to change the face of the cheese category as we know it.

The UK’s leading retailer, Tesco, recognised the importance of such a revolutionary product immediately. The product contains a third less fat and 30% less table salt than standard Cheddar and will launch into stores nationwide on 7th October 2013. This landmark product will sit alongside our ground-breaking Reduced Salt Mild Cheddar that was introduced into the Tesco range earlier in the year and will be available in a medium strength variety to tempt cheese lovers who enjoy a stronger flavour.

Tesco has long been a supporter of healthy eating options and the Reduced Fat & Salt Cheese was an obvious choice when looking to expand their own label range. Cheese Buyer, David Chamberlain comments:  “We have worked closely with Helers for many years and are continually impressed with their tireless innovation and new product development.  When presented with the product, we instantly saw the potential of the Reduced Fat & Salt Cheese and strived to get it on our shelves as quickly as possible, having no doubt that this product is the beginning of something revolutionary for both of our businesses.”

The UK consumer is becoming increasingly health conscious and although consumption of both fat and salt is crucial for health, Helers recognise that there is a growing number of people in the UK who need to be mindful of their intake of both, yet still want to enjoy delicious everyday foods, such as cheese.

In recognition of our work in developing healthier cheese, in 2001 Joseph Heler Ltd was presented with the Queen’s Award for Enterprise when they launched a 3% fat cheese. The introduction of the UK’s first Reduced Fat & Salt Medium Cheese only goes to further cement our position as the UK’s most pioneering creamery.
